Bodo national convention begins today

By Correspondent

KOKRAJHAR, Nov 17 Massive preparations have been made to accommodate over 5000 delegates from several places of India and abroad at the two-day Bodo national convention starting tomorrow at the Bodofa Nagar in Kokrajhar, close to the Bodoland Secretariat building.

Talking to media persons, Derhasat Basumatary, president of the reception committee, said that work is almost completed to hold the crucial delegates sessions, among other programmes of the convention. The main objective of this convention is to unite and integrate the Bodo people from all walks of life.

It may be mentioned here that this convention was slated for November 12 and 13 last but was deferred due to some unavoidable reasons.

Earlier, such a convention was organised at Barama College in Baksa district on September 10 last where as many as 25 Bodo political and non-political organisations took part.

This historic event, convened by Kampa Borgoyari, is expected to be attended by almost all Bodo organisations as they met the anti-talk NDFB leader Ranjan Daimary in Nagaon jailed on October 25 last for support.

Besides, a few other Bodo factions, which had abstained from participating in the earlier session at Barama, are also expected to join this convention, sources said.
