Bodo bodys call: Update NRC before rehabilitation

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 18 The Peoples Joint Action Committee for Bodoland Movement today threatened to launch a rigorous movement if the displaced people are rehabilitated in the BTAD areas without updating the National Register of Citizens(NRC).

Speaking at a joint conference with the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Progressive), Bhraman Baglari, convener of the joint action committee, said that providing rehabilitation to people who are not the genuine citizens of the country is against the law of the country.

The antecedents of each one of them has to be verified before making them beneficiary to Government welfare schemes, he demanded.

Govinda Basumatary, general secretary, NDFB (P) addressing the press men, said, It is very unfortunate that people of the NE had to flee from other States due to security reasons. In the context of the exodus of NE people from Southern States, both the Centre and the State Government has reacted too late. The exodus if not contained will set a very bad precedent.

Basumatary has urged the Government to identify the agents of the clashes and book them at the earliest.

He also lashed out on AIUDF chief Badaruddin Ajmal for playing communal card and warned him to refrain from such activities.

There are sections trying to draw political mileage out of the present state of affairs, which is very unfortunate, he stated, while condemning the recent act of violence in the State.
