Bodo bodies move Kokrajhar admn over �witch� killings

KOKRAJHAR, April 28 � Several Bodo organisations including the ABSU, BSS, Dularai Boro Samaj Afat, All Boro Employees� Federation, Dularai Boro Harimu Afat, Tribal Sangha, All Bathou Maha Sabha, National Bodo Christian Coordination Committee, Dularai Bodo Abadari Afat, Dularai Brahma Dwrwm Afat, Gaon Bura Santha, BPPF, UDPF and All Bodo Primary Teachers� Association on Wednesday jointly submitted a memorandum to Donald Gilfellow, DC, Kokrajhar, demanding a high-level inquiry into the recent killing of Bodo people in the name of witch craft practice, besides rape of a Bodo woman in Kokrajhar recently.

They also demanded an exgratia of Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of each victim of witch hunting and punishment to the alleged jawan involved in the rape of a Bodo woman.

They alleged that as many 6 Bodo women in several places of Kokrajhar have been killed since April 15 in the name of practice of witch craft. The memorandum stated that a 35-year-old Bodo woman of Taraibari village under Kokrajhar PS was raped by some Army jawans on April 20.

The memorandum demanded appropriate action and punishment to the culprits. The villagers in remote places are still unsafe, the memorandum added.

On the otherhand, the All Bodoland Territorial Areas District Gaonbura Association, strongly condemning incidents of killing in the name of witch haunting flayed failure to deal with the matter. At the same time, the association demanded release of innocent gaonburhas arrested by police.
