Bodies of slain youths sent for post mortem

TINSUKIA, Dec 28 � The bodies of the three youths of Barekuri area, killed by personnel of the Light Infantry Regiment near Namsai in Lohit district of Arunachal Pradesh on December 25 in a reported encounter, were sent for post mortem by the Makum police after FIRs were filed by the victims� families today.

Meanwhile, the road and rail blockade by the people of Barekuri and organisations like All Assam Moran Students� Union from 3.30 pm yesterday, demanding a judicial probe and compensation to the families of the slain youths, was withdrawn at 3 am. The Tinsukia district administration and police have taken up the matter with the local Army authorities which, in turn, have informed the agitators that no agency from Assam was involved in the Namsai episode, and that they have initiated an inquiry into the matter.

The Tinsukia district administration has forwarded the memorandum, demanding a judicial probe and compensation, submitted by the Barekuri Yuba Sangha to the authorities concerned. It has also taken up the matter with the Deputy Commissioner, Lohit district, who has informed the Tinsukia DC SS Meenakshi Sundaram that the Arunachal Pradesh Government has ordered a judicial probe into the matter. The protesters have decided to discuss the next course of action after the last rites of the slain youths.
