Boby Singh clinches Mr Saraighat crown

GUWAHATI, March 26 � A Boby Singh of Assam became champion of champions in the RG Baruah Memorial All India Classic Bodybuilding Championship and won the DS Group Mr Saraighat title.

In the entertaining contest of musclemen at the ITA Centre here last evening, Boby outshone other bodybuilders with better demonstration of poses and muscles.

Sangram Chaugule of Maharashtra and Javed Khan of Indian Railways became second and third respectively. Fourth to tenth position holders are-Vijay Bahadur (Uttar Pradesh), Rahul Bhist (Uttarakhand), Krishnamurthy H (Karnataka), Amit Patil (Maharashtra), Vinit Marwaha (Punjab), Sh Shyam Sharma (Manipur) and Jainender Tyagi (Delhi).

A total amount of Rs 2,05,000 was at stake as prize money where the champion walked away with a purse of Rs 50,000. The second and third position holders received Rs 40,000 and Rs 30,000 respectively.

The championship was organised by Assam Bodybuilders and Fitness Association where 20 reputed bodybuilders of the country were invited to take part.

The championship was inaugurated by MP Bijoya Chakraborty. Former Mr Universe Padmashri Premchand Degra was present as chief guest in the function. Along with Degra, Brig RD Yadav, head of DS Group, Chetan Pathare, general secretary IBBF along with a host of guests were present on the occasion.

Young international weightlifters Zameer Hussain, Saurav Gogoi, Swapna Priya Baruah along with coaches Santanu Gogoi and Alakesh Baruah were felicitated by the organisers on the occasion.
