GUWAHATI, Nov 18 - The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) today termed the claim of the BJP that the repatriation of ULFA general secretary Anup Chetia has become possible because of the initiatives taken by the Central Government led by it, as a blatant lie. It has also flayed the BJP for the failure of the Central Government led by it to bring back the black money stashed in foreign countries and to provide jobs to the unemployed people of the country.

APCC vice president Ripun Bora said in a statement that the process of repatriation of Anup Chetia was initiated by the UPA Government under the leadership of Dr Manmohan Singh and several rounds of discussions were held with Bangladesh on the issue during the time of the UPA Government.

Bora also maintained that contrary to his tall assertions made at the election rallies, on the eve of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, to bring back the black money stashed in foreign countries and to distribute it among the countrymen within 100 days of being voted to power, at the rate of Rs 15 lakh each, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has failed to make any headway in this front.

Moreover, the Central Government under Narendra Modis stewardship has imposed an embargo on all sorts of government recruitment for one year. This also goes against the election pledge of the BJP to provide employment to two crore job seekers of the country.

The BJP-led Central Government has also harmed the northeastern States by withdrawing their special category state status and suspending the North East Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy (NEIIPP), 2007. Besides, the present Central Government has been impeding the implementation of the Food Security Act in Assam and drastically slashed the allocations against the education, health, panchayat and rural development, child and women development, among others.

The present regime at the Centre has also failed miserably to arrest the skyrocketing prices of the essential commodities and has thus made life miserable for the common people, said Bora, asserting that the BJP is taking recourse to lies on all such issues and is trying to divert the attention of the common people to other flimsy issues to save its face.
