BJP working group to demand autonomous State

By Correspondent

DIPHU, Nov 22 The district BJP committees of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao have formed a working group to demand an autonomous State, encompassing the two autonomous zones.

The group named the Joint Coordination Committee for Autonomous State Demand (JCCASD) was formed after a joint extended meeting of BJP executive office-bearers at Hamren in west Karbi Anglong recently, Arun Terang, Karbi Anglong district BJP president, said.

Arun Terang and Hamjanon Langthasa will be the presidents, while Bharat Timung and Kidenlungle Zeme are the joint conveners. A team of the JCCASD will leave for New Delhi shortly to meet the party leaders to apprise it of the Statehood issue.

RK Ghosh, State BJP secretary who was present in the meeting, said that the demand for an autonomous State is constitutional, but before going for it, the concurrence of the maximum people from both the autonomous zones will have to be ensured so that a solid base of political will in favour of Statehood can be achieved and the JACAS (Joint Action Committee for Autonomous State) will have to understand the issue.

It may be mentioned here that throughout the last general election, the JACAS remained a close ally of the BJP in Karbi Anglong and till today in spite of some differences, this conglomeration of various organisations has not snapped ties with the saffron party.
