BJP wins big in Dhubri civic polls

By Correspondent

GOLAKGANJ, Feb12 After the Delhi rout, here is something to cheer about for the BJP. Of the 16 wards, BJP won 10, while the Congress won only 2. Three Independent candidates and one AGP candidate won the remaining wards in the Dhubri Municipality elections.

The fight was primarily between the Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress in most wards. Seen as a semi-final between the BJP and Congress ahead of the 2016 Assembly elections, the results may be an indicator of poll prospects for both the parties in the State Assembly elections to be held next year. The 10 BJP candidates who won are Bina Goala (Ward No. 1), Alpana Mazumdar (Ward No. 2), Tama Das (Ward No. 3), Barin Ghosh (Ward No. 4), Ranjita Agarwal (Ward No. 5), Nirupam Ghosh (Ward No. 6), Puspa Malla (Ward No. 11), Ambika Devi Mondal (Ward No. 12), Himbrata Mazumdar (Ward No. 13) and Dulu Prasad Bin (Ward No. 16). The winning AGP candidate is Dilip Sarkar (Ward No. 15). The three Independent candidates who won are Kalimuddin Sheikh (Ward No. 7), Afruja Khatun (Ward No. 8), Uttam Prasad (Ward No. 9), while the two Congress winners are Bodiur Rahman (Ward No. 10) and Habiba Khan (Ward No. 14).
