BJP wins all three seats in Nalbari

NALBARI, May 20 - The BJP swept all the three constituencies � Nalbari, Barkshetri and Dharmapur � in Nalbari district in the Assembly elections, the results of which came in yesterday.

In Nalbari Sadar LAC, BJP candidate Ashok Sarma defeated his nearest rival, Pradyut Kumar Bhuyan of the Congress, by a margin of 53,044 votes. Sarma bagged 99,131 votes, while the Congress candidate polled 46,087 votes.

In Dharmapur LAC, BJP national executive member Chandra Mohan Patowary won the seat for the fifth time, defeating former Agriculture Minister Nilamani Sen Deka. While Deka got 36,560 votes, Patowary captured 70,503 votes.

In Barkshetri constituency, BJP candidate Narayan Deka defeated his Congress rival Diganta Barman, son of former Chief Minister Dr Bhumidhar Barman, by a margin of 8,613 votes. BJP candidate Deka got 69,035 votes, while Barman bagged 60,504 votes.

The victorious BJP candidates later took out rallies in Nalbari town. Victory rallies were also taken out in Dharmapur and Barkshetri LACs.
