SILCHAR, March 11: Banking on the history of political success from the Barak valley, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will form the next government in the state as people will bless the party for its performance in the past five years.

Addressing a meeting at the SM Dev Stadium to add fillip to the campaign by candidates of his party across seven constituencies of the district who filed their nomination papers on Thursday as well, Sonowal said, “Barak valley laid the foundation of the Bharatiya Janata Party in its journey in Assam and the North East, and the party tasted success in 1991 and the glory was revived in 2016. People of the state and this region in particular who were deprived in all aspects for long years by the Congress government no longer think of any other alternative party other than the Bharatiya Janata Party and trust the party as it has been able to restore and deliver good governance. I am certain, on the basis of phenomenal development and good work done during the past five years, people will vote the BJP to power yet again in this Assembly election.”

Alleging that the Congress party was known for its corruption, Sonowal reminded the gathering by saying, “We all are aware how the funds meant for the development of the Barak valley were siphoned off by leaders and their followers during the Congress rule, which the people of the valley have well and truly realised. But the BJP-led government was able to wipe out the dark episodes and accelerate development of roads, bridges and overall communication and development of the valley. I firmly believe that because of our positive approach and good works, all the seven candidates from Cachar district will come out victorious in the electoral battle.”

On the question of annoyance shown by many BJP leaders who were denied poll tickets, the Chief Minister said that when anyone joins the BJP, the national interest is kept as the foremost priority. “I believe people in the party will work for the larger interest to drive home victory for the BJP candidates,” he maintained.
