BJP trying to create law-and-order problem: CM

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 9 - Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today accused the BJP of trying to create law-and-order problem in the State and encouraging extremist elements with a view to bring about a situation conducive for imposition of Presidents Rule in Assam.

Speaking to reporters at the Legislative Assembly, Gogoi said that BJPs Dispur gherao programme was an attempt to cover up the failure of the NDA regime in Centre to fulfil its promises made to the electorate of Assam and India, including on issues like India-Bangladesh land swap, big dams, price rise and inflation, illegal immigrants, black money, among others.

It is an attempt by the BJP to cover up its failures in fulfilling its promises. It is an attempt to create law-and-order problem so that Presidents Rule can be imposed. They do not want to go to the electorate under the present Government as they are apprehensive that we will achieve much more during the remaining months of our term. It is all a game to impose Presidents Rule, said the Chief Minister.

He accused the saffron party of trying to communalise the environment in Assam and of attempting to foment riots.

The Chief Minister said there are intelligence reports to corroborate such claims and added that BJP is also trying to encourage militant groups and extremist elements with a view to create law-and-order problem.
