GUWAHATI, Sept 21 � The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will discuss the land border agreement with Bangladesh in its national executive to be held on September 30 and October 1 to discuss the future course of action. The committee formed by the party president Nitin Gadkari to visit the disputed border areas to assess the situation on the ground to submit its report soon so that it can be discussed in the executive.
BJP spokesman and former Union Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy, who led a team to the Baraibari area today, told The Assam Tribune that the BJP is totally against handing over of India's land to Bangladesh and the party would register its strong protest on the issue both inside and outside the Parliament.
On his experience on the international border today, Rudy said that the Central and State Governments hoodwinked the people by handing over India's land to Bangladesh. He said that the Central and State Governments ignored the voice of the people and handed over land to Bangladesh without discussing the issue with anyone.
The BJP leader said that they have met people who have valid court documents to prove that the land given away to Bangladesh in the Baraibari area belonged to them. Though the land was located across the fencing, the Government should have taken step to ensure that the rightful owners get possession of the land. The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh unilaterally took the decision to hand over the land to Bangladesh, while, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi also ignored the voice of the people, he added.
Rudy said that the Prime Minister had an informal discussion with the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha , Sushma Swaraj and the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha , Arun Jaitley before going to Dhaka, but he did not mention about the Government's plan to hand over India's land to the neighbouring country. The Prime Minister even deprived the Parliament of the right to debate the issue and the BJP is shocked at the developments, he added.
The BJP spokesman said that he along with Bijoya Chakraborty, Sarbananda Sonowal, P Chandrashekhar, Prasanta Phukan and Ranjit Das visited Baraibari area today, while, a team led by Chandan Mitra would visit the Barak Valley areas and another led by SS Ahluwalia is visiting North Bengal area for an on the spot assessment of the ground situation. The teams will get together to prepare their reports so that the same can be discussed in the national executive of the party, he added.
