BJP to go it alone in Assam Assembly poll

By The Assam Tribune

GUWAHATI, Sept 22 (PTI) - Surprised over its alliance partner Asom Gana Parishad's decision to snap electoral understanding with it, BJP today said it will go alone in next year's Assembly election in Assam and produce better result.

"The AGP had declared during the Lok Sabha polls last year that BJP was its elder brother and had formally signed the election pact till 2011," BJP state unit president Ranjit Dutta told reporters here.

Besides, AGP had not formally informed BJP of its decision to snap ties, Dutta said his party was prepared to fight the ensuing Assembly election alone.

In the last Lok Sabha poll BJP had a better showing in Assam than AGP but still the regional party blamed the alliance for its defeat which was unfortunate, he said.
