SILCHAR, Sept 15 - Thousands of the Bharatiya Janata Party workers of the Cachar district committee unit and the party top brass hit the streets on Monday protesting the pathetic road condition of the area.

Staging a protest rally from the BJP party office, the party workers gheraoed the office of Executive Engineer PWD Rural Roads division and sought reply for such deteriorating condition of roads and set a seven-day deadline for the repair works to begin.

The BJP leaders, including partys district president Kaushik Rai, MLA Dilip Paul, former MP Kabindra Purakystha, former MLA Parimal Suklabaidya, alleged that the shortcoming is not in way the roads are constructed and occasionally repaired, but there is a deliberate attempt by the unholy nexus of concerned authorities and contractors to generate works every year, with the aim of siphoning taxpayers money.

Alleging a nexus between the contractors, the Sports Minister, Ajit Singh, and the Border Area Development Minister, Girindra Mallik, Kaushik Rai said, Both ministers have their hands dipped in corruption and are extracting money from the contractors assigned to repair the roads. We want the repair work to start within seven days or else the protest will be intensified.

Meanwhile, reacting to the allegations, Minister Mallik said that people would respond to the questions raised by the BJP. Derecognising the BJP district president, local MP Susmita Dev said that the Congress and its ministers need not to reply to his allegations, they are responsible to the people.
