BJP set to win both Tripura seats

AGARTALA, May 23 - Riding on a strong Modi wave, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tripura is on the way to register emphatic wins in both the Lok Sabha constituencies � West Tripura and East Tripura � by convincing margins, according to the latest trends released by the State election panel till the reports last came in.

On the other hand, the Congress, which polled two per cent of the vote share in the 2018 Assembly elections, looks set to finish second by replacing the CPI (M)-led Left Front.

In the West Tripura Lok Sabha constituency, BJP nominee Pratima Bhowmik has secured 5,24,573 votes (51.23 per cent) so far, while Congress candidate Subal Bhowmik has received 2,59,601 votes (24.48 per cent). Outgoing MP and Left Front candidate Sankar Prasad Datta has polled 1,59,645 votes.

Brishaketu Debbarma, who fought the election on an IPFT ticket, has secured 42,308 votes (4.13 per cent), while NOTA votes accounted for 42,308 (4.3 per cent) votes in the prestigious Lok Sabha seat.

BJP�s Rabati Tripura have so far polled 4,59,115 (45.67 per cent) votes in the East Tripura Lok Sabha constituency , while his nearest rival � Congress candidate Pragya Debburman � has bagged 2,69,115 (26.75 per cent) votes. Jitendra Chowdhury of the Left Front has secured only 1, 94,494 (19.02 per cent) votes in the ST reserved constituency.

IPFT supremo NC Debbarma, who contested the election in East Tripura, has been able to poll only 3,44,742 (4.5 per cent) votes, while NOTA accounted for 6,886 votes (1.4 per cent).

Results of the postal ballots have not been made available at 7 pm. The final results are likely to come up later in the night after verification of VVPAT slips.

The BJP is going to register massive wins in both the Lok Sabha constituencies, while the Congress is emerging as the main Opposition in the newly saffronised State by ousting the CPI(M)-led Left Front.
