BJP planned to topple my Govt, claims Gogoi

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 29 - Close on the heels of imposition of Presidents Rule in Uttarakhand, leader of the Assam Congress Legislative Party (ACLP)-cum-Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had also planned a similar fate for the Government in Assam some months back.

Gogoi told mediapersons that the BJP with the help of his former aide Himanta Biswa Sarma (now BJP leader) had even planned to spend crores of rupees to topple the Government.

More than 35 legislators were contacted in this connection, Gogoi said, They wanted to do what they had succeeded in doing in Arunachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

On Himanta Biswa Sarma, he said, Yes, he was my blue-eyed boy and I committed the mistake of believing in him.

Gogoi alleged that such acts amount to murder of democracy and the BJP is trying to rule the Hitler way.

The Chief Minister further said that the BJP Government is losing its popularity and the recent string of poor shows, including that in Bihar, evidences that.

He alleged that the top BJP leaders are ignorant about the historical background of Assam and are beating about the bush at election meetings to gain mileage in the ensuing polls.
