BJP national executive gets under way

NEW DELHI, Jan 6 - The two-day national executive meet of the BJP got under way here on Friday after it was jointly inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party president Amit Shah.

Briefing media after the inaugural session, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said the executive hailed demonetisation decision as a bold step towards less-cash economy. He claimed that the decision has badly hit fake currency, drug dealers and terror and Naxal funding. He also said surgical strikes conducted by the Indian Army across the LoC at terror launch pads were recognised throughout the world.

The executive meet assumes significance in view of ensuing assembly elections in five states. The party�s national executive is likely to discuss strategy for elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Manipur and Goa.

The party may also use the occasion to emphasise its pro-poor and pro-weak credentials by citing several government schemes, including the recent initiatives announced by the Prime Minister.

The meet which is being attended by national executive members, Union ministers, chief ministers and senior leaders will pass a political and economic resolution.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is scheduled to address the meeting tomorrow. Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain, State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass, State minister Himanta Biswa Sarma along with the party MPs from the State are also taking part in the national executive meet.

Earlier, ahead of the national executive meet, BJP president Amit Shah addressed the party office-bearers.
