HAFLONG, July 10 � The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Dima Hasao district unit submitted a memorandum with a five-point charter of demands to the Deputy Commissioner, Dima Hasao, on Tuesday seeking his intervention and action thereafter.
The memorandum stated that in recent past the people of Dima Hasao district faced terrible havoc due to natural calamities; some people lost their lives and many of them incurred major property losses. In fact, never before had such unwanted natural calamities occurred in Dima Hasao district. They requested the DC to intervene in the matter by assessing the valuation of loss to be given as compensation to the next of kin of those who lost their lives.
The employees under the administrative control of Dima Hasao Autonomous Council, Haflong were facing immense hardship due to non-payment of monthly salaries regularly. The BJP memo requested the DC to intervene in the matter to ensure payment of salaries to the employees regularly.
The memo alleged that the people of the district were not getting PDS items due to non-transparency of the system, and urged the DC to ensure strict and smooth functioning of the PD System.
They also observed that the ruling party at Dima Hasao Autonomous Council had misused funds sanctioned for development by indulging in large-scale corruption. They requested the DC to check such malpractices.
They further demanded immediate restoration and improvement of road communication particularly of Haflong Town as well as entire Dima Hasao district.
