SILCHAR, Dec 26 - Four BJP cadres were attacked by miscreants on their way to Silchar from a church after attending Christmas celebrations at Khasiapunji area under Kanchanpur Gaon Panchayet of Cachar district on Monday.
According to police, the BJP cadres identified as Chandu Mian, Kamil Uddin, Chayan Sheel and Saharul Alam were attacked by a group of 15 persons who attacked their car with arms. Despite the assault, the persons inside the car somehow managed to escape from the spot and seek shelter in a nearby house. Subsequently, the miscreants set their car ablaze and even attacked the houses nearby after spotting the concerned BJP cadres, police informed.
Interestingly, Kamil Uddin, one among the four persons who were targeted is a ticket aspirant from the saffron camp for the Zila Parishad election from the area, sources informed.
On the other hand, Cachar Superintendent of Police Rakesh Roushan informed that an FIR was lodged by the victims and police is investing the matter with priority. He added that police was maintaining strict vigil across the city to avert any untoward incident, especially ahead of publication of the draft NRC and also Panchayat election.
