BJP likely to finalise State list today

By Spl Correspondent

NEW DELHI, March 7 The BJPs central election committee is meeting tomorrow to finalise the list of candidates for Assam, amidst a last minute move by the State leadership to thwart an alliance with the AGP.

The State BJP leaders, led by its president Sarbananda Sonowal, arrived in the capital last evening to take part in the meeting.

The State election committee meeting was held on Friday, which was chaired by in-charge for Assam SS Ahluwalia. Issues like election campaign, manifesto and other logistical issues were discussed. The meeting also decided to re-nominate all the four sitting MPs.

The party has decided to forge an alliance with BPPF for the Kokrajhar seat, while for autonomous district seat, it has decided to align with a regional party, but a candidate would be fielded by BJP, said sources.

Senior BJP leaders have by and large reconciled to the fact that an alliance with AGP may not be possible now, though a section of the MPs were keen to join hands with the regional party.

BJP sources said that strong opposition by State unit and failure of the AGP top leadership to establish direct contact with top leaders of BJP were part of the reasons for the failure to forge an alliance.
