BJP intensifies campaign for Teli in Dibrugarh

By Staff Correspondent

DIBRUGARH, APRIL 4 Alarmed at the poor electoral ratings of BJP Dibrugarh candidate Rameswar Teli, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today criss-crossed the constituency in two choppers, in a bid to reinforce the party campaign in the area, from today. It was none other than Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself who advised Teli to go the extra mile in his campaign, when the two met briefly here on Wednesday morning.

The Chief Minister addressed election rallies in four assembly constituencies - Digboi, Naharkatia, Duliajan and Moran whereas Himanta Biswa Sarma attended rallies in Margherita, Tingkhong, Lahoal and Dibrugarh. The saffron party attracted comfortable crowds in all the venues. Both the BJP leaders appeared to be competing with each other as to who would be logging greater chopper flying miles.

Sonowal, in his address in Gorudharia within Moran LAC stated that the state government was seeking to make Assam the best state in the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that Prime Minister was striving towards making Assam a developed state. Despite huge reserve of natural resources and potential, the region remained neglected and under developed under the Congress government in the past 70 years, he said. Sonowal also highlighted the developmental projects implemented by the government and also the proposed schemes.

In a rally at Muttuck tea estate in Lahoal today, mostly attended by plantation workers, Himanta mainly highlighted its governments monetary aid and social welfare schemes to the poor besides developmental programmes like road construction, power connection and medical benefit schemes.

He compared the 70 years Congress rule with the 5 years rule of the BJP-led NDA and said that even kids from the kindergarten schools would spontaneously pick the face of Prime Minister Narendra Modi if the photos of Rahul Gandhi and Modi were shown to them. Such is the popularity of Narendra Modi, he claimed. He further said that the then Prime Minister of the Congress could not act when Kasab and other terrorist from Pakistan attacked women, children, police commissioner and several others in Mumbai. They were scared of nuclear from Pakistan but our Prime Minister Narendra Modi showed courage and took revenge by attacking the camps of the terrorist in their own homeland, said Himanta.
