BJP hell bent on dividing people: Cong

By Staff Reporter

SILCHAR, Dec 12 - At a time when the entire North East is witnessing an outburst of anger among people against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), members of the Congress party staged a protest demonstration on Wednesday and blamed the BJP for its divisive politics.

At a protest meeting in Uddharbond block over CAB and other allied issues including price rise, decentralisation of industries along with certain local issues, the Congress leaders termed the steps taken by the BJP-led Governments at the Centre and in the State as anti-people.

With the passage of the Bill, the BJP is hell bent to divide the people of Assam and the North East on religious lines, which is detrimental to the unity of the nation and thoroughly unconstitutional. The State government must take steps to keep the fallouts at bay or it must step down from power. Whatever is happening in the State since the past few days is unfortunate, said Sujan Dutta, general secretary, Silchar District Congress Committee.

Former State Minister Ajit Singh took a jibe at the BJP government over the rise in onion prices and said, Tthe way onion prices have shot up in the recent times, people of the country have not experienced it in the past 70 years. Our industries are being sold out, women are suffering from lack of social security. The whole country is being jeopardised.

The Congress leaders opined that the brand of Hindutva as advocated and preached by the BJP is absolutely different from what Swami Vivekananda had shown to the people of the country and the world.
