BJP head office in city ransacked

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 5 Workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today ransacked the party head office located at Nursery (near Ganeshguri) area protesting against the candidature of Prahlad Bhuyan from the Morigaon constituency.

The agitated workers most of them coming from Morigaon were demanding party ticket for Bhadreswar Nath, alleging that the party leadership knowingly fielded a weak candidate while depriving the strong contender.

A few minutes later, the saffron party received another setback ahead of the polls with party spokesperson Charan Deka tendering his resignation, alleging that the party leadership has being doing injustice to him time and again. Deka was left out from the list of candidates announced by the party on Friday for the ensuing Assembly polls in the State.

The party workers, comprising mostly women, damaged a computer set, tables, chairs, windows etc.

The workers alleged that Bhuyan was given the party ticket in exchange of huge sum of money while keeping out the most deserving candidate, Nath.

The agitated workers also shouted slogans against the party leadership.

When asked, State president of BJP Ranjit Dutta claimed that the protesting persons were not affiliated to the saffron party and termed them as goons of the Congress.

Those people were not from the BJP but goons of the Congress. We had informed the City SSP about the incident but regrettably the police failed to turn up, giving the miscreants a field day. We condemn this inaction on the part of the police and district administration, Dutta said, adding that the party would stage a dharna before the DGP office demanding immediate arrest of the culprits for the pandemonium.
