By Staff Correspondent

SILCHAR, Aug 8 - Congress MP from Silchar Sushmita Dev has alleged a breach of the provisions of Section 144 Cr PC in Cachar district by the ruling BJP government.

In a letter to the Chief Secretary, Government of Assam, Dev has pointed out that despite the imposition of Section 144CrPC by the district administration to maintain law and order in the district, State Minister of Forest, Environment and Fisheries Parimal Suklabaidya and other leaders of the party have violated the prohibitory norms and abused the Congress party while speaking in a meeting at Dholai constituency on August 3.

Minister of Forests has abused the Congress party and myself in particular while delivering his speech at a Government programme and attempted to provoke peaceful situation, especially when the entire state is going through a crucial phase, she said in the letter.

The Minister made it a platform to dish out instigating political messages. Is the law different for the party in power and for the Opposition? Dev questioned.

Further, the Silchar MP alleged that Silchar MLA Dilip Kumar Paul also used words to defame the Congress party on August 2 which is unacceptable.

Dev urged upon the Government to intervene the matter and initiate action against the breach of prohibitory provisions.

Meanwhile, Cachar Deputy Commissioner Dr S Laxmanan said that Section 144 CrPC has been enforced to prohibit gathering of people with arms and weapons in order to avert untoward incident.
