BJP gears up for Panchayat elections

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Dec 2 The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Assam Pradesh on Sunday sounded the Panchayat election bugle with its president Sarbananda Sonowal appealing to all the party members and people of Barak Valley to work towards eliminating corruption from the system and establishing decentralisation of power in the true sense.

Sonowal addressed party members and urged them to be focused on the coming Panchayat elections.

It needs to be mentioned here that the party has already constituted a State level monitoring committee with Narayan Borkotoky as chairman and Dilip Saikia as convenor. The senior leaders of the party have started travelling across the length and breadth of the State to motivate its members and chalk out the right strategy for different localities.

On the other hand, a two-day meeting in connection to the Panchayat poll preparation concluded today at the BJP State office here. The meet while discussing the poll strategy of the party, decided to strengthen its units at the grassroots. A seven-member Panchayat election management committee was formed at the meet for Guwahati.

The party has invited applications from its interested candidates by December 12.

The Congress has decentralized corruption and not power. The BJP will ensure that the common people actually benefit under the Panchayati Raj system, said Dilip Saikia.
