BJP forms Nalbari, Tihu civic bodies

NALBARI, April 6 � The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) formed the Nalbari Municipal Board and the Tihu Town Committee in an oath-taking function held at the Deputy Commissioner�s conference hall here on Sunday.

In the oath-taking meeting, chaired by Kalyani Goswami (member from the ward No. 3), Bipasha Das of ward No. 9 was sworn in as the chairperson of the Nalbari civic body, while independent candidate Manjurul Alam, who extended support to the BJP, took oath as the vice chairman.

The BJP candidates had won from the six seats in the 12-member Nalbari civic body, while the Congress bagged five seats, the other seat going to the independent candidate.

The Tihu Town Committee was also formed by the BJP with Jupitara Kalita (ward No. 4) as chairperson and Paban Kalita as vice chairman.

The oath-taking function was attended among others by Ramen Deka, MP of Mangaldoi Lok Sabha constituency, Jayanta Malla Baruah, MLA of Nalbari Assembly constituency, and Dr Om Prakash, Deputy Commissioner of Nalbari.
