BJP for all-party meet on floods

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, July 2 The Bharatia Janata Party (BJP) on Monday insisted that the government immediately call an all-party meeting to assess the current flood situation in the State as well as discuss the ways of finding a permanent solution to the problem.

Addressing media persons here, BJP national general secretary Vijay Goel said that the party was very much concerned about the flood problem in Assam and that the BJP ruled States were willing to help Assam at this time of crisis.

No party should try to gain political mileage out of the devastating flood in the State. The BJP ruled States will come forward to help Assam if Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi makes a request, said Goel informing that the BJPs high level delegation that is surveying the flood situation in Assam would also submit a copy of the report to the Prime Minister.

Goel regretted that the Prime Minister representing Assam has been apathetic towards the issues of the North East including the flood problem in Assam.

The flood situation in Assam is grimmer than what has been flashed in the electronic media. BJP leaders have been visiting all the flood affected areas in Assam and we have come to the conclusion that if the government had taken steps to strengthen the embankments on time, the situation wouldnt have been so grave, said Goel demanding that the government compensate the farmers who have incurred heavy loss by waiving their loans.
