GUWAHATI, Oct 13 � The national president of BJP Kisan Morcha Om Prakash Dhankar today came down heavily on the Congress government for the Besimari incident that saw four farmers killed in police firing on October 11.
Demanding a judicial inquiry into the incident by a High Court judge, Dhankar insisted that the government pay at least Rs 5 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh each for those injured in the incident.
It needs to be mentioned here that several persons were also injured in the firing at Besimari market in Darrang district. Farmers allegedly had blocked the road protesting against the rates offered to jute growers which was much lower than the minimum support price fixed by the Government of India.
