BJP flays Cong action

By The Assam Tribune

GUWAHATI, Jan 29 The Congress, in consonance with its policy of appeasing and placating outsiders, has once again undermined the interests of the local people of the State by fielding Sanjay Singh as a Rajya Sabha candidate from Assam. This criticism was hurled against the Tarun Gogoi government by State BJP president Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday.

Addressing media-persons here at the party headquarters, Sonowal said that time and again the Congress has been ignoring the sentiments of the local people by fielding outsiders for the Rajya Sabha seats and it was high time to put a stop to this anti-Assam activity.

The BJP is strongly against outsiders representing Assam. Only those individuals who can understand the issues of the State and have respect for the aspirations of the people of Assam should represent the State in Parliament, said Sonowal asserting that the BJP will continue its fight to free Assam from foreigners which is one of the political expectations of the people of Assam.

Sonowal exuded confidence that senior journalist Haider Hussain, who is the common candidate for the Opposition parties, will emerge victorious.

It needs to be mentioned here that the saffron party, which earlier had decided not to participate in the Rajya Sabha election, changed its stand in protest against the Congress fielding an outsider.

On the other hand, Sonowal slammed the State government for the deteriorating law-and-order situation and insisted that the police personnel who were killed in yesterdays ambush in Sonitpur should be adequately compensated. Staff Reporter
