NEW DELHI, Sept. 24 � BJP president Nitin Gadkari felicitated world women�s boxing champion MC Mary Kom at a function at the party headquarters here today.
At a function organised by the party�s North East India Sampark Cell, Gadkari presented a cheque of Rs 1 lakh and a memento to Mary, who recently won the gold medal in the World Women�s Boxing Championship in the 48-kg class beating her Romanian opponent Duta Seluta in Bridgetown, Barbados.
Gadkari also presented an airbag and toys for the twin children of Mary.
The gesture was the outcome of media interview, when the Manipuri braveheart had mentioned that she couldn�t get time to even buy toys for her children in Delhi due to her hectic schedule.
The BJP president also honoured bronze medallist at the championship Kavita Chahal from Haryana at the function by presenting a memento and Rs 51,000 to her.
Describing Kom and Chahal as �India�s Pride�, Gadkari said the party had always encouraged sporting talent across the country and would continue to do so in the future.
