'BJP effecting division among migrants'

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 14 - The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) today described the bid of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to protect the interest of the illegal migrants having allegiance to a particular religious belief, as grave insult to the Assam agitation and virtual infringement of the provisions of the Assam Accord. The historic Accord will complete 30 years of its signing on August 15, 2015.

AGP president Atul Bora alleged in a statement here that the BJP is bent on effecting a division among the illegal migrants on communal lines. Thus, the BJP has joined the club of the Congress in protecting the interests of the illegal migrants.

The BJP, which rode to power with its assurance of Acche Din (good days), disappointed the people of Assam with its act of handing over Assam land to Bangladesh and with its stand on the issues concerning the mega dams and special state status, etc. Its stand on such issues is nothing different from those of the Congress, Bora said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whose speeches in the BJPs Lok Sabha election rallies on the issue of deportation of the illegal migrants from Assam were marked by hyperboles, has not initiated any step to resolve this problem. In respect of implementing the other clauses of the Assam Accord too, like the constitutional safeguard to the people of Assam, sealing of the Indo-Bangla border etc, the BJPled Central Government has displayed total indifference, alleged Bora.

He also ridiculed the statement of the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh that he (Singh) would visit the Indo-Bangla border, if the Home Minister needs one year and three months time to say that he would visit the Indo-Bangla border, then how much time he will require to implement the Assam Accord.
