BJP demands PR in State

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, July 23 The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday blamed the Tarun Gogoi government for the deteriorating law and order situation and once again raised its demand for Presidents rule in the State.

Calling upon all sections of people in Kokrajhar to exercise restraint and work for peace, national vice president of BJP Bijoya Chakravorty said that the Tarun Gogoi government has failed in all departments including law and order.

Ethnic clashes, unabated influx of Bangladeshis, flood and erosion, soaring prices of all essential commodities including foodgrainall these are enough to prove the inefficiency of Tarun Gogoi, said Chakravorty.

Talking with media-persons here at the party office, Chakravorty expressed surprise that the government did not take the necessary action to prevent the ethnic violence in Kokrajhar even though it had reports of tension building up in the area since the first week of July.

The people sheltered in relief camps in Kokrajhar are feeling a sense of insecurity, said Chakravorty.

The senior BJP leader also slammed the Assam Police for its incompetence in controlling volatile situations and people. She said that the increasing lawlessness and crimes particularly against women was a pointer to the inefficiency of the police.

Our police know only one thingto dance to the tune of the ministers. So they have lost their efficiency, regretted Chakravorty adding that the police failed to check the thefts in Sattras and temples which were allegedly indulged in by Bangladeshis.

On the other hand, the party has demanded a one-stop train for Assam to prevent recurrence of killing of students and other citizens from the region. It needs to be mentioned here that recently Pritam Bhattacharjee of Assam was killed in Bihar while travelling by train. Chakravorty, describing the incident as tragic said that such incidents must not happen again and it was the duty of the government to ensure it.
