BJP demands PR in Manipur

By Spl correspondent

NEW DELHI, Oct 21 Demanding Central intervention, the BJP on Friday demanded imposition of Presidents Rule in Manipur following breakdown of government administration.

A delegation led by the national president of BJP, Nitin Gadkari called on the Prime Minister on Friday morning to discuss the prevailing situation in Manipur following the over two-month-long blockade. A memorandum with 20,000 signatures was also submitted to the Prime Minister.

The BJP delegation told the Prime Minister that the Government of the day is practically absent. The State legislature seems to have become completely dis-functional, while corruption has become rampant. The SPF Government in the State should be dismissed forthwith and the State be brought under Presidents Rule till such time as fresh elections are conducted.

The Prime Minister should lead an all-party delegation to Manipur and provide the people of the State a much-needed healing touch. Effective steps should be taken urgently to put a full stop on rampant black marketing, the national party demanded.

The people of Manipur are in a deep crisis. The State Government has miserably failed in tackling this grave situation. There has been a total lack of sensitivity towards the plight of the people of Manipur, Gadkari said.

Manipur is facing a crisis in supply of food materials and other essential items due to the blockade of National Highways 39 and 37 separately by Sadar Hills District hood Demand Committees (SDDC) and United Naga Council (UNC).

The Bharatiya Janata Party has taken a very serious view of this situation. It appears that neither the Centre nor the State Government has any well laid down policy to tackle insurgency and unrest in a crucial border State like Manipur, the national president said.

The Central Government seems to have taken a spectators role and no efforts seem to be under way for bringing normalcy in the State. The overall situation is highly unpredictable. We wonder what exactly the government is waiting for, wondered Gadkari.
