BJP demands judicial probe into BTAD violence

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, May 5 The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Assam Pradesh, on Monday demanded a judicial inquiry into the BTAD violence and accused the government of sponsoring the massacre in a bid to polarize voters in the remaining 105 Lok Sabha constituencies in the country, where the general election is yet to be conducted.

The national vice-president of the party, Bijoya Chakravarty, while addressing the media persons here said that the Congress, apprehending its defeat, has been carrying out a campaign to tarnish the image of Narendra Modi, who is the partys Prime Ministerial candidate. Blaming Modi for the BTAD massacre is just another attempt of the Congress to malign the Gujarat Chief Minister, she alleged.

The senior BJP leader, who is contesting from the Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency, said that the Congress has been using the communal agenda for political advantage without any botheration for the sufferings of those who are exploited in the name of religion and language.

The Congress is behind the violence and the Tarun Gogoi government is trying to create a civil war-like situation in the state by mulling the idea of providing licensed arms in the BTAD areas, she said.

On the other hand, Chakravarty also alleged that forest guards and officials of the Manas National Park had a role in the BTAD violence.

Slamming Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi for the recurrent violence in the state, Chakravarty mentioned that Gogoi was now keen to hide his failures by creating a volatile environment.

Chakravarty, expressing concern over the delay of the CEO of Assam in sending to the EC the video footage of the centres in Karimganj from where rigging had been reported, said that this reflected the partisan attitude of the CEO. If there is delay in sending the report to the EC, there will be no repoll. So we request the CEO to submit the report and the video record as soon as possible.
