BJP demands implementation of SC order

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, July 12 The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Assam Pradesh on Thursday demanded of the Government to sincerely implement the Supreme Court directives on identification and deportation of foreigners in the State.

National executive member of the party, Sarbananda Sonowal while addressing media persons here said that even after scrapping of the IM(DT) Act by the Supreme Court so many years back, the Government was yet to follow the directives of the apex court.

July 12 is a very significant day for the people of Assam because of the Supreme Court verdict. Today we again appeal to the Government to implement the directives of the Supreme Court so that the vexed foreigners issue is resolved, said Sonowal reminding Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi that he too had welcomed the verdict of the Supreme Court.

Sonowal regretted that the people of Assam who had expected to see the expulsion of Bangladeshis from the State following scrapping of the IM(DT) Act and directives of the Supreme Court to both the Centre and the State have been utterly disappointed.

The Bangladeshis have threatened the very existence of the indigenous communities in the State. The Bangladeshis have encroached on our Sattras and Devalayas. The Government should stop playing its political game, said Sonowal calling upon the Government to take immediate steps to ensure efficient functioning of the Foreigners Tribunals.
