BJP demands emergent session of Arunachal Assembly

By SPL CORRESPONDENT

NEW DELHI, Oct 3 Fishing in troubled waters, the BJP on Monday called for convening of an emergent session of the Arunachal Assembly urgently.

The State Government should make a statement on the floor of the House on this issue of complete neglect of governance, demanded national general secretary of the Party, Tapir Gaon.

Briefing newsmen, Gaon said since last four months, half of the Congress legislators including four Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries and MLAs are camping in Delhi to change their leadership. It is a Congress internal matter but the people of Arunachal Pradesh are suffering. All the developmental activities are standstill and the law and order problems are increasing day by day, he charged.

Alleging that Congress president Sonia Gandhi was solely responsible for the crisis in Arunachal Pradesh, Gaon, who was joined by Dr Murli Manohar Joshi, said half of Congress legislators are in five star hotels in Delhi. Involvement of underground groups of the North East is a matter of serious concern and is a threat to Arunachal Pradesh and the nation, he said.

The internal leadership tussle in the Arunachal State Congress unit has paralysed governance in the State. One wonders, why the Central Congress leaders are silent and have not taken any action against their legislators, who are not attending their duties since past four months, he said.

Due to monsoon, most of the district headquarters are cut off, medicines and essential commodities are not reaching the interior and border areas. But the government in Arunachal Pradesh is now campaigning in Delhi, for caring for the people of the State, the national general secretary alleged.

As reported by this newspaper, last Friday, Union Home Minister, P Chidambaram describing the situation in the border State as unacceptable, advised Chief Minister, Jarbom Gamlin to get the governance back on track.

We are very unhappy with the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly especially the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) is divided causing some considerable amount of dislocation of the governance, the Home Minister said replying to questions.

I have taken this up with the Chief Minister. But I cant talk about how the issue is to be resolved at the party level, but I have told the Chief Minister that this is not acceptable, Chidambaram said, stressing that governance must be brought back on rails.

But Ministers are not attending Cabinet meetings, MLAs are camping in Delhi and the Assembly is not transacting any business, causing concern. I have raised it with Gamblin and requested him to bring governance back on the rails, said the Home Minister.

Chidambaram, however, declined to comment, when asked whether the Chief Minister is being changed.

Meanwhile, the BJP has demanded urgent steps to have distribution of medicine and essential goods in Manipur. Today, it is 65 days since the two National Highways in Manipur has been blocked. The essential commodities and medicines are in shortage.
