By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 28 The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Assam Pradesh on Tuesday demanded a ban on All Assam Minority Students Union (AAMSU) for perpetrating violence and stoking communal sentiments.

The BJP has also demanded the arrest of all AAMSU leaders under the National Security Act.

Suspected Bangladeshis came out in support of the AAMSU bandh today and created trouble in all the historically prominent districts of the State. These suspected Bangladeshis also vandalized and set ablaze houses and shops, said the party.

Condemning all the acts of violence and intimidation recorded today during the bandh, the BJP called upon the government to take strong steps against the perpetrators of violence.

During the bandh, even mediapersons and those working in the health sector were also targeted. We demand of the government to immediately identify these miscreants and mete out stringent punishment to them, insisted the BJP, pointing out that the AAMSU has been fomenting tension and patronizing violence since long in the State.

The BJP functionaries, spokesperson Santanu Bharali, vice-president Jayanta Das and secretary Dilip Saikia said that the government must adequately compensate all the people who incurred loss during this bandh.

The governments lack of action resulted in the violence that the State witnessed today, said the party, alleging that the AAMSU and the Congress government had jointly conspired todays violence.

The BJP said that todays incidents were preplanned and the government supported the AAMSU.
