NEW DELHI, Nov 7 � The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday called on the Centre to make arrangements to airlift essential commodities and medicines to Manipur, as these were in very short supply.
A two-member team of BJP Central leaders are rushing to Imphal on Tuesday.
Briefing newsmen, Prakash Javadekar said despite the lifting of the economic blockade in Manipur the situation there was grim. �The situation in Manipur is becoming worse day by day. It is very serious. There are reports that fuel and essential supplies there will last for only one more day.
�We demand that the government airlift essential commodities, fuel and medicines to the State within 24 hours,� the BJP spokesperson said.
Javadekar said BJP leaders Yashwant Sinha and Vinay Sahasrabuddhe would be leaving for Manipur tomorrow on a three-day visit to take stock of the situation and meet the local people.
The BJP Party was critical of the UPA Government and wondered why it has not been able to end the blockade even after 93 days. �Is Manipur not a part of India? Government has been giving sermons but has not done anything,� Javadekar said.
�It is surprising that there is a ceasefire but yet the rebels are toting guns while the armed forced have kept their weapons under wraps,� Javadekar said today.
A delegation of Party leaders led by Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and BJP president Nitin Gadkari had met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh recently to demand an end to the blockade.
Newmai News Network adds: The fifth public hearing before the Committee on Reorganisation of Administrative and Police Boundaries was held at the Old Secretariat here on Friday.
In the hearing, three organisations submitted their opinions while the Kuki Movement for Human Rights, Imphal skipped the hearing.
The process of district re-organisation in the State is urgently required to maintain integrity, unity, and, for bringing development and peace, said KT Rahaman, president, All Manipur Clubs� Organisation (AMUCO). He was talking to media persons after the hearing.
Former Minister C Dongel said the people of Ukhrul and Senapati wish to merge Naga villages of Sadar Hills to the respective districts. If so, the Kuki villages under the two districts should also be given to the Kukis.
Sadar Hills district boundary under Autonomous District Council (Hill area) Act, 1971 as passed by the Parliament should be kept undisturbed. Further re-organisation process can be done after upgradation of Sadar Hills to a full-fledged district, Dongel said.
The caretaker president of Eastern Kuki Chiefs� Association (EKA) also presented a memorandum before the committee.
