BJP core committee in Tripura discusses LS polls

By CORRESPONDENT

AGARTALA, Nov 21 - The BJP core committee has underlined need to strengthen micro booth level (pristha promokh) to ensure victory in two Lok Sabha constituencies in Tripura.

It was decided that pristha promokhs would be appointed at the micro booth level so that party activities could be taken to the peoples doorsteps. Booth Level and Mondal level political activities would be intensified after November 30 to ensure better results in the run up to the Lok Sabha elections.

Chief Minister Biplab Deb and BJP national secretary and State prabhari Sunil Deodhar, Dy Chief Minister Jishnu Devvarma were present in the meeting.

In the meeting, it was decided that both committees headed by Sudip Roy Barman (West Tripura LS) and Ratan Lal Nath (East Tripura LS) would start working for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections. Interestingly, there was no talk on electoral ties with its ally Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT).

Dr Ashok Sinha, the chief spokesperson on Wednesday said the core committee was a routine work to check the partys organisational strength. The core committee has asked the leaders to intensify political activities and involve people to ensure partys landslide victory, he said.

BJP sources said the party has been focusing on campaign in Reang refugee camps in Tripura to garner their support for the crucial Mizoram Assembly elections. Over 11,000 voters in five Assembly constituencies of Mizoram is a key factor and thats why the BJP Tripura unit has been trying to woo them. Party general secretary Pratima Bhowmik has been deputed to oversee election campaign for five Bru and Chakma dominated Assembly constituencies in Mizoram.

But it is not yet clear where the Bru refugees would cast their votes in the ensuing Mizoram Assembly elections. Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Mizoram Asish Kundra visited Kanchanpur and held a meeting with refugee leaders to know their stand but no final decision has been taken so far.
