BJP blasts Cong for attack on Bijoya

By STAFF Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 17 The BJP, Assam, today lambasted the Congress for violating the citizens rights in the run-up to the municipal polls in Guwahati.

The Congress has failed on all fronts and is increasingly getting jittery about its dwindling prospects in the municipal polls. This explains why it is behaving in a desperate manner the attack on BJP MP Bijoya Chakravarty being the latest manifestation of its desperation, BJP State president Sarbananda Sonowal told the media.

Sonowal said that Chakravarty was not just an MP but was also a woman, and that the Congress showed its true colour by indulging in an unprovoked attack on the MP. This incident serves to show that the citizens in Guwahati are far from secure under the Congress Government, he added.

The people are fed up with the Congress misrule, and will reject the party in the polls. We also appeal to the administration and the police to remain impartial and to ensure law and order during the polls so that the Congress goons do not try to subvert the democratic process, Sonowal said.

The BJP has also lodged a complaint with the State Election Commission over the attack on Chakravarty.
