By STAFF CORRESPONDENT

SILCHAR, May 23: In what could be called an exciting run up to the permutations of votes for the Lok Sabha elections for the coveted Silchar Parliamentary seat, BJP's Dr Rajdeep Roy is leading agaisnt his prinicipal opponent and Congress candidate Sushmita Dev in constituencies like Sonai, Dholai, and Udharbond after the first round of voting.

However, Sushmita is leading in Silchar and Lakhipur constituencies.

As per the data received from the District Election cell at the NATRIP counting centre , the difference of votes after the first round between the BJP and the Congress is over 12,000 votes.

Expressing his mind before the media, Dr Rajdip Roy said, "BJP is leading in constituencies where it had a history of low vote counts. This is an encouraging sign and I am hopeful of a fruitful consequence."

Meanwhile, Sushmita Dev reacted saying that she is confident of retaining the seat but there is no point to be complacent as yet. "It will be a close contest and we might have to wait till the last moment. I have worked hard and hope to regain the trust of the electorates," she maintained.

On the other hand, sources in Karimganj informed , AIUDF's Radhe Shyam Biswas is leading by over 10,800 votes after the third round of counting.
