BJP becoming intolerant towards criticism: Cong

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 19 - The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party has become intolerant towards any criticism and it has virtually brought an end to the democratic process of debate and discussion to pave the way for a despotic rule.

The APCC allegation came in the wake of the BJPs dubbing the Congress criticism of the State government as nasty politics. The Congress has been criticising the State government and the BJP for their failure to provide relief to the millions of flood-hit people and instead concentrating more on expansion of the State Ministry, holding organisational meetings, etc.

The APCC said that instead of the Prime Minister, the Home Minister, the Union Water Resources Minister and top BJP leaders visiting the State at this hour of its distress, the Chief Minister himself has been shuttling between Guwahati and New Delhi to brief the BJP central leadership and the Union government on the catastrophe the State is in.

The Congress will continue with its criticism of the State government and the BJP, without being dispirited by the BJPs attempts at maligning its image, until the problems of the States people are addressed in right earnest, said the APCC.
