BJP bags 39 municipal boards in State

GUWAHATI, Feb 13 � The BJP emerged victorious in the municipal polls-2015 by capturing 39 of the 74 municipalities (municipal boards and town committees), with the Congress coming a distant second with 18 municipalities.

The AGP and the NCP got two and one municipalities respectively. Four municipalities witnessed ties while there was no clear (50 per cent) majority in ten municipalities.

In the ward-wise break-up, the BJP won 360 of the 743 wards where polls were held. The Congress won 250, followed by the AGP with 39. While Independent candidates accounted for 80 wards, the AIUDF and the NCP got eight and four, respectively. The BPF and the CPM got one each.

In the process the BJP recorded its best ever performance in the State civic polls, while the AGP failed to make much of an impact in the election.
