BJP asks PM not to make any offer on repealing AFSPA

By The Assam Tribune

Jammu, June 6 (PTI): Maintaining that Army is performing a commendable job in stamping out militancy in Jammu and Kashmir, BJP today asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh not to give any assurance to separatists over repealing of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and withdrawal of troops.

"BJP is concerned about visit of Prime Minister to Kashmir Valley in view of the separatist agendas set for him. Prime Minister should not give any assurance to separatists or mainstream opposition in Kashmir on repeal of AFSPA or withdrawal of Army which will amount to compromising the national interest in J&K," BJP spokesperson and former state unit president Nirmal Singh said here.

He said instead Army in the State should continue to give support to civil administration in fighting Pakistan-sponsored militancy as long as militancy is not completely flushed out.
