BJP asks Govt to publicise States demography

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, May 11 The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Assam Pradesh, on Sunday demanded of the government to make public the religious profile of the population of Assam and accused the government of deliberately procrastinating its release.

Addressing media persons at the party head office here, P Chandrasekhar Rao, national security cell convenor of BJP, said that the alarming demographic change in the state was a stark reality and the government, fully aware of the fact that the illegal infiltrators were the major factor behind the change in the religious composition, was intentionally delaying the release of the religious profile.

The alarming presence of illegal Bangladeshis have caused imbalance in the socio-cultural and political sphere of the state. The existence of the indigenous communities has been threatened by the demographic change, said Rao, alleging that an insurgency movement was gaining momentum amongst these illegal infiltrators and it was time the government took stringent steps to check proliferation of arms amongst the infiltrators.

On the other hand, Rao assured that once the saffron party comes to power, immediate measures would be adopted to identify the illegal settlers and strip them of their political, economic and other rights.

We insist on a state security policy so that the common people can live without fear, said Rao adding that the security cell of BJP, Assam Pradesh, will take all issues related to the security of life and property of the people to the Central government. It needs to be mentioned here that a convention of the security cell is going to be held on June 15.

We have also decided to form a study team to make an assessment of the situation prevailing on the international borders of Assam, said Rao, mentioning that this study was important to stop the proliferation of arms and check all other illegal activities.
