New Delhi, June 15 (IANS): Alleging Home Minister P Chidambaram's role in the 2G spectrum allocation scam, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today demanded that the government should clarify on the issue.
"There was a role played by P Chidambaram as the then Finance Minister in fixing the price at which the 2G spectrum was allocated in 2007," said BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman. The party spokesperson said that the Supreme Court had also asked for the transcript of taped conversation between corporate lobbyist Niira Radia and former Communications Minister A Raja related to Chidambaram.
She said petitions had also been filed to probe Chidambaram's role in the scam.
"In fixing price for allocation of 2G spectrum in 2007 at the price of 2001, clearly the then finance minister had a role. This is a very serious issue on which the government needs to explain the role of the then finance minister," she said. "Despite a lot of questions being raised from various quarters, the prime minister is silent," she added.
