NALBARI Feb 7 Political parties have geared up their campaigns to woo voters for the Nalbari Municipal Board polls, to be held on February 9. In the 12 wards of the board, the ruling Congress, BJP and AGP have fielded candidates for all the seats. For the BJP, Union Minister of State for Sports and Youth Welfare Sarbananda Sonowal, national executive member Chandramohan Patowary and MP Ramen Deka held a series of poll meetings. Similarly for the ruling Congress, APCC president Anjan Dutta attended poll campaigns in Nalbari town. The other campaigners for Congress have been ministers Chandan Sarkar, Dr Bhumidhar Barman, MLA Jayanta Malla Baruah and APCC secretary Pradyut Bhuyan among others. The Asom Gana Parishad has not been left behind in the poll campaigns for Nalbari Municipal Board election. AGP president Atul Borah also addressed a series of poll meetings in Nalbari town.
However, the ruling Congress partys campaign has been suffering due to the dissidence activities of MLA Jayanta Malla Baruah in association with former Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma. It is alleged that the Nalbari MLA has failed to carry out development works of the town though the Nalbari Municipal Board was held by the Congress. Now newly-appointed minister Dr Bhumidhar Barman, who has been entrusted with the charge of the poll campaign, is trying to recover lost ground.
