BJP-AGP-BPF devoid of ideology: Anand Sharma

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 2 - The electoral alliance of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) is not based on any ideology, rather it is driven by the political expediency for capturing power in the State, said former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Anand Sharma here today.

He alleged that due to lack of proper planning and lack of skill of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the economy of the country is now in the intensive care unit (ICU) and dared Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah to make public the reasons responsible for this dismal situation.

He also described Prime Minister Modi as a pledge maker, who doles out endless promises to lure the voters, which he never fulfils. During the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, he levelled many baseless charges against the UPA government and assured that if voted to power, the NDA government would provide jobs to two crore jobless people of the country annually. But, he has not done anything during the 23 months of the NDA rule in this regard. Fresh appointments in government offices have now virtually been stopped all over the country, Sharma said.

According to a Central government survey, since 2014, fresh appointments in public and private sector offices have now drastically declined. Against the scenario of the 12 crore jobs provided by the UPA government between 2005 and 2012 to the job seekers, the NDA government has been able to provide jobs to only 2.42 lakh in various sectors since ascending to power, Sharma said.

He alleged that the NDA government has discarded all the projects initiated by the UPA government for the development of Assam and other NE States and has thus cast a spanner on the way of development in the region.

Claiming that the UPA government initiated lots of steps for the development of the education sector of the NE region, he demanded a statement from the BJP on what steps the NDA government has taken for the development of Assam during the past 23 months of its rule.
