Biswanath Harlalka passes away

GUWAHATI, April 2 � Biswanath Harlalka, popularly known as Mamaji, passed away at the Marwari Hospital and Research Centre here this morning.

He was 84 and had been ailing for some time.

A prominent businessman and social activist, Harlalka was associated with several philanthropic and transport owners� associations.

He was actively involved in the Assam Movement and was a pioneer in the formation of the Asom Gana Parishad. He was also instrumental in raising huge donations for several sattras and temples, besides other humanitarian services.

He leaves behind his wife, three sons, a daughter and a host of relatives.

Harlalka�s funeral at the Bhootnath cremation ground was attended by a large number of mourners. Various organisations have mourned his death, terming him a great social worker.
