Biswanath festival gets under way

BISWANATH CHARIALI, Dec 28 - �Biswanath Chariali, better known as Gupta Kashi, has potentialities for development as a tourist spot�. This was observed by veteran Assamese film actor Nipan Goswami, while flagging off the cultural procession taken out on the occasion of Biswanath Festival, 2015.

He expressed hope that the concerned agencies would come forward in this respect. The 4th edition of Biswanath Festival got under way with much pomp and gaiety at Kamalakanta Kshetra, here with flag hoisting by the SDO (C), Biswanath, Pallav Gopal Jha, who is also the president of the organising committee.

The exhibition was inaugurated by the Sonitpur DC, Loya Madduri. A seminar was organised at the historical Gang Mou Than, Borgang, with Shobhan Chandra Goswami, Satradhikar, Kamdewal Satra, Kalabari, in the chair.

Taking part as the distinguished speaker, eminent writer and thinker Mayur Borah dwelt at length the relevance of Sankardev at the present era. A new tourist spot, �Hati Depot� inside Behali Reserve Forest was declared open to the public by Subhashis Das, DFO of East Sonitpur Forest Division.
